Steve McQueen’s Le Mans is a cinematic ode to racing, beloved by motorsports enthusiasts worldwide. Among the film’s many memorable elements is the iconic Heuer Monaco reference 1133B, a timepiece that has become synonymous with McQueen’s character and the spirit of racing. Six of these Heuer Monaco models were sent to the set for filming, and one in particular, fitted with a leather strap, was worn by McQueen throughout the production.
After filming wrapped, the watch found its way to Bevan Weston, a young mechanic who later worked for McLaren at the 1971 Indy 500, proudly wearing the Monaco on his wrist. Weston enjoyed the watch for many years before selling it to a private collector in 2010. Now, this unnamed collector has decided to part with the timepiece, making it one of the last film-worn Le Mans Monaco’s to come to auction.
This extraordinary watch will be the centerpiece of Sotheby’s Important Watches sale on December 11th, where it will be featured alongside other notable TAG Heuer “Champions” timepieces. The collection celebrates the golden age of motorsport and highlights Heuer’s deep-rooted connection to racing, with the Steve McQueen-worn Heuer Monaco 1133B.
