The Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo might be the closest you’ll get to sitting behind the wheel of the car of your dreams (or, quite literally, from someone else’s dreams—because that’s where this futuristic concept car came from).
This virtual Ferrari, unveiled in late November 2022 for the Gran Turismo series’ Vision Gran Turismo project, is the first Ferrari single-seater in racing gaming.
After Gran Turismo founder Kazunori Yamauchi challenged the world’s leading automotive brands to design their version of the “ideal” Gran Turismo car, many took him up on the offer to give players a chance to experience something unique and new.
None might be quite like this Ferrari, though, which draws body inspiration from the uber-popular Ferrari sports prototypes from the 1960s and 1970s. With its ultramodern exterior pulling from the Ferrari 330 P3 and the 512S, this car screams drama from every sleek curve. But let’s talk about the guts of this beauty, which is anything but dated: A more extreme version of the Ferrari 499P engine sits inside, with no less than 1,030 CV (1,015.8 HP) at 9,000 rpm. There’s also an additional 240 kW (321.5 HP) from three (that’s right, three) electric motors, one on each front wheel and another on the rear axle.
The Vision Gran Turismo project began as a celebration of the video game’s 15th anniversary in 2013 by releasing one concept car at a time. A decade and dozens of models later, the vehicles continue to awe and attract motorsport gaming fans.
